This is a new 12-story medical office and laboratories for the Centers
for Disease Control. The building is an all-steel structure with
concrete floors and pre-cast exterior panels. There are coffered
ceilings throughout augmented by concealed type sprinklers, along with
recessed and other types of sprinkler styles. The skeleton of the fire
sprinkler system is a 750 GPM @ 115 PSI fire pump supplying two vertical
standpipes. The system also incorporates the addition of auxiliary dry
pipe sprinkler systems and pre-action sprinkler systems. The building itself
is parabolic in shape that made design and installation of the sprinkler
system a challenge in being able to conform to the building curvature.
